ESC ACADEMY PRO – Policy event – Brussels, 8th of September

On September 8, 2023, a pivotal policy event titled “European Student Card (ESC): Shaping the
Future” took place in Brussels, Belgium. This event gathered education policymakers, university
representatives, and stakeholders to discuss the current state and future of the European Student
Card Initiative (ESCI).
The event aimed to present findings from a report created between March and August 2023, with a
focus on the ESC initiative’s status and its potential for digitalizing Erasmus+ with initiatives like “ESC
ACADEMY PRO.” This project involves six partners: European Students’ Union, International Student
Identity Card, Global Youth and Student Community, Federation of Estonian Student Unions, Student
Chamber of the Council of HEIs, and Out of The Box Europe.
Distinguished speakers included Tanguy Guibert (ESU), Marko Paunović (ORB) , Vito Borrelli (DG
EAC), Jeroen Van Lent (NTT DATA), António Soeiro (NTT DATA, Katrīna Sproģe (FESU) , and Miloš
Milenković (ISIC), who provided context and highlighted key themes.
The event featured discussions on ESC PRO’s significance, the current status of ESCI, and its
components: the Erasmus+ App, Erasmus Without Paper, and the European Student Card. Panel
discussions involved experts in European higher education policy, digitalization, and student
mobility.


The event concluded with networking and celebrated the 70th anniversary of the International
Student Identity Card (ISIC), highlighting its role in supporting student mobility.
This policy event served as a platform for stakeholders to evaluate ESC’s progress and strategies for
its development, fostering collaboration and dialogue. As ESCI evolves, it has the potential to
revolutionize European higher education, bridging the digital divide and enhancing opportunities for
all.
